What We Fund

Status: Opens on October 1, 2025.

Description: The Flex Fund is a competitive one-time grant opportunity of up to $7,500 to be used towards nonprofit general operation expenses (not program expenses). Funds can be awarded to Alamance County 501(c)(3) non-profits that address one or more of the following social determinants as identified in the 2024 Alamance County Community Health Assessment. 

Examples of general operation expenses are:

• Staff salaries and benefits: This includes compensation for employees, as well as payroll taxes and benefits like health insurance.
• Rent and utilities: The cost of leasing office space, along with utilities like electricity, water, and internet.
• Office supplies and equipment: Pens, paper, computers, printers, and other equipment needed for daily operations.
• Technology costs: Expenses related to software licenses, website maintenance, and other IT needs.
• Marketing and communications: Costs associated with promoting the nonprofit’s mission and programs, such as website development, brochures, and social media marketing.
• Fundraising costs: Expenses incurred to raise money for the nonprofit, such as event planning, donor solicitation, and online fundraising platforms.
• Accounting and legal fees: Costs associated with professional services like bookkeeping, tax preparation, and legal counsel.
• Insurance: Liability insurance, property insurance, and other types of insurance to protect the nonprofit and its staff.
• Professional development: Training and education for staff to improve their skills and knowledge relevant to the organization’s mission.
• Board development: Costs associated with training and supporting the board of directors in their governance roles.
• Other: The specific types of general operation expenses will vary depending on the unique needs of each nonprofit.

Amount Awarded:

          Up to $5,000 for new nonprofits that:

• Have not previously received a grant from Impact Alamance OR

• Do not have a full-time Executive Director
  

  Up to $7,500 for nonprofits that:

• Have received grant funding from Impact Alamance and have a paid, full time executive director on staff OR
• Have participated and graduated from Leadership Institute or Alamance County Racial Equity CoLab and have a paid executive director on staff.

Eligibility:

• 501(c)(3) located in and serving Alamance County.
• Must have 501(c)(3) status for 2 years.
• Must address community health through – one or more of the social determinants (listed in the table above).
• Priority will be given to those that have not received a Progress and Enhancement grant in the past year.

Not Eligible:

• Government entities
• Public, charter or private schools
• Sports teams
• Individuals
• Political Organizations or campaigns
• For-profit entities
• Capital Campaigns
• Programs promoting religious doctrine
• Event sponsorships
• Scholarships

Priority will be given to organizations that:

• Have an established relationship with Impact Alamance.  Have received prior grants, participated in Leadership Institute or Alamance County Racial Equity Collaborative.
• Serve a large amount of people.
• Serve a diverse population.
• Have a proven track record of service and collaboration with other organizations in Alamance County.
• Gains feedback and engages the community the organization serves.
• Provide a financial statement demonstrating revenue and expenses over two years.

Be prepared to provide organization and contact information, a very brief description of the general operation expenses, and an approximate dollar amount you are requesting.
