The Teacher Leadership Academy aims to help teachers connect what they do in the classroom with opportunities and priorities of the surrounding community. We introduce them to resources, encourage innovation and partnerships, and align with the Alamance-Burlington School System’s strategic goals of recognizing and developing emerging teacher leaders.
During this two year program, candidates spend full days visiting locations throughout Alamance County to learn about the key tenets of the ABSS strategic plan. The sessions demonstrate how local business and industry implement these strategies and how the same strategies can be applied directly to classroom learning for improved student outcomes.
The experiences in TLA helped me to realize that I don’t have to hold a certain title to generate change in my school and community. There are resources at my fingertips that can be utilized to support my students if I am willing to take advantage of them.”
A candidate for the Teacher Leadership Academy must be:
Teachers who are currently enrolled in the Teacher Leadership Academy and are committed to staying with the Alamance-Burlington School System for the following school year are eligible to submit proposals for funding for a school-based project up to $20,000.
To apply for the upcoming Teacher Leadership Academy, please submit the following application by October 11, 2024. All fields including applicant information, essay questions and resume must be completed before the application can be considered.
Approximately 50 candidates are chosen.
Each candidate must also have their principal submit an endorsement form to be considered for selection into the Teacher Leadership Academy. Endorsements are due on the same date as applications; we recommend allowing your principal time to complete your request.
Teacher Leadership Academy is now structured as a two-year program with full day sessions held quarterly.
Tentative program dates for the first year are listed below. Dates for the second year of the program will be announced once the Alamance-Burlington School System’s 2025-2026 academic calendar is released.
