In July 2026, Impact Alamance partnered with the Children’s Museum of Alamance County to officially launch The Basics Alamance, a countywide early childhood development initiative, during a community event at the museum. Held in conjunction with the museum’s Friday Family Night series, the event introduced local families to The Basics Alamance and its five science-based caregiving Principles that support healthy early childhood development.
The Basics is a community-wide initiative focused on helping children from birth to age five thrive by promoting five evidence-based caregiving Principles that support social, emotional, and cognitive development. The Principles encourage caregivers to use everyday moments and interactions to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success.
In Alamance County, implementation of The Basics is being driven by a growing network of family-serving organizations, healthcare providers, educators, and community partners working together to promote consistent early childhood development practices and resources across the county.
Impact Alamance has invested $55,000 to bring The Basics to Alamance County. Since that investment, Impact Alamance has worked alongside local partners to lay the foundation for local implementation through stakeholder convenings, staff training, and community engagement efforts.
The investment also brought The Basics Insights to Alamance County, a free text messaging service that delivers weekly educational tips, activities, and child development facts to the parents and caregivers of young children. The messages are designed to help families incorporate the five Basics Principles into everyday routines and interactions.
The July launch event saw several years of relationship-building and strategic planning culminate in an evening of shared learning and family fun. Through Impact Alamance’s sponsorship, museum admission was free for all families throughout the evening.
Attendees participated in a scavenger hunt that guided them through the museum while exploring each of the five Basics Principles. Interactive prompts demonstrated how caregivers can incorporate the Principles in everyday activities and environments.
In addition to learning about The Basics, families had the opportunity to connect with other local resources that support young children and caregivers. Staff from Alamance Partnership for Children participated in the event, sharing information about family support programs including Parents as Teachers, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and other services available to local families.
Families who completed the scavenger hunt received a free children’s book, and those who enrolled in the Basics Insights text messaging service had their name entered into a raffle for a year-long family membership to the Children’s Museum.
The event welcomed approximately 200 attendees and resulted in nearly 40 new families enrolling in The Basics Insights. The event marked an important milestone in the countywide rollout of The Basics Alamance, connecting families with practical tools, supportive resources, and opportunities to help young children thrive.
