Impact Alamance Milestones in Community Health and Built Environment Investments

Since our founding, Impact Alamance has remained steadfast in its commitment to investing in spaces that promote healthy living for all residents. Recognizing the vital role both natural and built environments play in community health, we have supported the development of parks, trails, and playgrounds that encourage physical activity, foster social connection, and build a strong sense of belonging and overall wellbeing.

In recent months, three major built environment projects funded by Impact Alamance have reached key milestones—either being completed or launching their first phases. These projects represent meaningful progress toward creating healthier, more inclusive, and accessible spaces for all.

Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area – Lookout Trail & Observation Tower

In fall 2021, the Impact Alamance Board of Directors approved $50,000 in funding to support Alamance Parks in advancing phase two of the Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area and Trails. This funding supported the construction of a 2.5-mile loop trail beginning at the Oak Hill Trailhead, along with a 75-foot-tall observation tower that offers sweeping, panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Completed in April 2025, the new Lookout Trail is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring a gentle elevation gain that welcomes hikers of all ages and skill levels. This addition not only enhances the county’s growing network of outdoor spaces but also invites residents and visitors alike to connect with nature, enjoy physical activity, and experience the scenic beauty of Alamance County from new heights.

Green Level Municipal Park Playground

In August 2024, the Impact Alamance Board of Directors approved $75,000 in funding to support the Green Level Parks and Recreation Department in transforming the Green Level Municipal Park into an inclusive and engaging space for children and families. This investment supported the installation of modern, accessible playground equipment, including wheelchair-friendly surfacing and play structures designed for children ages 2-12.

Unveiled in June 2025, the revitalized playground has quickly become a source of pride for the community. More than just a recreational upgrade, it reflects the Town of Green Level’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and the wellbeing of its youngest residents. The playground fosters active play, social connection, and a sense of belonging—creating a welcoming environment where all children can thrive.

Mebane Greenway – Phase 1 of Connectivity Project

In August 2023, the Impact Alamance Board of Directors approved $100,000 in funding to help the City of Mebane’s Recreation and Parks Department launch the Connectivity Project—an initiative aimed at enhancing pedestrian corridors and promoting active lifestyles throughout the city.

The project’s first phase, completed in April 2025, introduced a newly constructed, accessible 0.75-mile paved greenway connecting Corregidor Street and 3rd Street. The greenway seamlessly integrates with existing sidewalks to form a continuous 2-mile loop, providing residents with safe, convenient access to key community destinations, such as the Mebane Arts & Community Center and Athletic Fields.

This milestone marks a significant step toward creating a more connected, pedestrian-friendly Mebane. By investing in infrastructure that supports walking, biking, and outdoor recreation, the city is laying the groundwork for a healthier, more vibrant community.
